About the Role

Trinidad Eye Hospital is seeking a resident of ophthalmology to join the CVRS|TEH OST Program.

The timetable is designed to give a good exposure to the management of general ophthalmology
cases inclusive of vitreo-retinal disease. The department is well equipped with two dedicated
ophthalmic theatres and large clinic area. Diagnostic facilities include networked digital
fluorescein angiography, OCT, in addition to the usual complement of equipment.
Previous experience of phacoemulsification is not essential. Supervised and/or
unsupervised surgery is available depending on previous experience and skills.
There is the opportunity to undertake clinical research in the fields of diabetic retinopathy and
other clinical fields of interest.

Responsibilities & Requirements

Main Duties

  • Provide excellent patient care by conducting all services in accordance with established

    protocols and recognized standards of care at CVRS.

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary medical team and collaborate with subspecialists.

  • Ensure all patients receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate recommendations to

    manage and treat eye health issues.

  • Perform eye surgeries as part of treatment plans for patients.

  • Communicate effectively with ophthalmic technicians and office staff to ensure a

    flawless patient experience.

  • Utilize the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) as a tool to ensure effective patient

    management.

  • Participate in Performance Improvement audits and in quality assurance studies.

  • Participate at ophthalmology conferences and internal teaching sessions



Qualifications & Competencies

  • MBBS

    • FRCS, DM Ophthalmology or equivalent or in progress

  • Knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, ocular

    pharmacology and management of acute and chronic eye conditions.

  • Demonstrates competency in same-day treatment and accurate timely referrals to

    ophthalmology subspecialists as needed.

  • Ability to apply the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of optometric

    practice, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, and mechanics of the human eye,

    visual processes, and detailed knowledge of ocular pharmacology and therapeutics.



Experience

  • Previous ophthalmology experience desirable but not essential.
